Thursday is the Great American Smokeout. This annual event is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and encourages those who smoke to make the "Smokeout" the day they quit smoking! In preparation for this event in homeroom this week, students will receive a brochure entitled: Tips for Teens: Tobacco. They will also watch and discuss two short videos (http://youtu.be/mcteRv08Aco and http://youtu.be/WnqZoKZuHCg). Our hope is to keep students who do not smoke from starting. However, we know that we do have students who smoke and we are pleased that Apex High School is able to provide a smoking cessation program for any students who are interested in quitting smoking. We have been trained by the American Lung Association to offer group sessions for students voluntarily seeking support to quit smoking. If your child is interested in this program and willing to stay for some after school sessions, have them stop by Student Services to sign up.
Salvation Army stockings are ready for filling!! This year the Salvation Army will register over 8000 kids in Wake County that are in need of a Christmas. This is a great way to give back to your community and make a less fortunate child feel special on Christmas morning!! The stockings are age specific, boy or girl, and are very inexpensive (and fun!) to fill. Please come to Student Services to pick-up stockings & suggestion lists. Stockings are due by Monday, December 8. Thank you so much for your generosity.
